The Last Hours of Teresa Lewis :: First Woman Executed in Virginia Since 1912

After all of her appeals were exhausted the execution order was finally given and the date set for the execution of 41 year old Teresa Lewis. She was convicted of murdering her husband and step-son in 2002, after conspiring with two men to have them both shot in an effort to obtain a $250,000 insurance policy. Teresa , by her own admission, was a false christian before the murders but had truly turned her life over to god following her imprisonment. She was by all accounts a model prisoner at the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarrat. And although she had rallied 7,300 appeals to the state Governor, no stay of execution was given. She died by lethal injection at 9:13pm.
Lethal injection is the practice of injecting a person with a fatal dose of drugs, typically a barbiturate to render the person into a deep sleep, Paralytic to paralyze the lungs and diaphragm, and potassium chloride to induce cardiac arrest. The first drug falls under the category of an anesthetic and is used in a large enough dose that it is considered fatal on it's own. It is believed that after the first dose most persons fall into death, and cannot feel the two subsequent injections to follow, therefore it is more humane than the electric chair.
Teresa was probably moved to death watch area a few days before the execution to isolate her from the death row community and prepare her for the execution. In the last twenty-four hours she would have been visited by clergy, family, and the warden. Attorneys would have been able to update her periodically about the status of a possible stay of execution. Then her last meal would have been prepared as requested. Most prisons will do their best to prepare any meal the prisoner requests for the last meal. As the witnesses were being brought into the execution chamber's viewing area Teresa would be hooked up to a heart monitor, this will allow the medical examiner to pronounce death following cardiac arrest.
Being that no stay of execution was ordered she would now be escorted to the execution chamber and strapped to the gurney in that chamber by three to four leather straps. She may have been offered a sheet for comfort. Now they would insert two to three intravenous lines in one or both arms. The tubes go through the wall into what they call an "anteroom". This is where the executioner, the guard who will actually administer the fatal doses, will be located. Phones are on the wall in this room so the warden can stop the execution at any time, perhaps for a last minute stay of execution. Unfortunately this did not happen for Teresa.
The curtains are pulled back so the prisoner can view her witnesses and they can view her. Teresa asked if her deceased husband's daughter was there and stated "I want Kathy to know that I love her and I am sorry". Those were her last words and the execution proceeded. Witnesses stated it was very peaceful with only small movement of her feet noted after the first injection. She was Pronounced dead at 9:13 pm and her body then released to the medical examiner.

Octomom is Broke?

Well I guess the "Octomom" thought she would linger in the limelight much longer than this.  Apparently she threw a garage sale at her home in La Habre, California this weekend.  It is reported that her home is in threat of foreclosure. Is it just me, or did we all know this would happen?  How long did she believe the attention deficited American public would lust after her and her eight new babes.  Let's face it, there are only so many talk shows you can appear on and then it's over.  Maybe if she's lucky there will be a "where are they now" show in the future, but for the most part financial support of those children will now be her responsibility, or should I say welfare's responsibility.
It's really to late to ask why she did what she did, but all in all it's those children that are going to suffer.  Even if she is a super mom, there are eight, actually 10 of them, and one of her.  How can she possibly care for all them emotionally and financially.  In the end it really is a sad story.  I do wish her and the children the best, and my prayers are with them all.

Did You Know Humor Can Reduce Stress and Improve Your Health?

Just a few laughs a day can dramatically reduce your stress levels, therefore increasing your immune response and improving your health.  The problem with most folks today is that they have forgotten how to laugh.  Every little thing in their life has become so serious that they are one big ball of stress waiting to crack.  Now everyone has an individual sense of humor, what one finds funny another may find insulting.  My own humor is pretty dry and crude, but I am always willing to polk as much fun at myself as I am anyone else.  Laughing has been scientifically proven to reduce blood pressure, eliminate headaches, muscle aches, and improve sleep patterns.  It has also been shown to improve interpersonal relationships.  So what are you waiting for, go ahead and grab a good laugh.

For some dry, sarcastic humor try reading The Hampton Humour Page or The Bun Life,  And for the more intellectual beings reading this blog try NY Humor By James Junior ( My Bro)  I only did it because I care!

Storm Safety By Christian Aufiero

In case a nasty thunderstorm rolls by and devours your house, here are some tips on how to keep your life.

During a thunderstorm, don't talk on telephones because if lightning strikes a power line, you can get electrocuted.

Never take a bath or shower during a thunderstorm. Lightning can travel through the shower water.

If your outside, run to a sturdy shelter. If none are available, duck down in a place where your not the tallest object in the area and cover your hands with your head.

Never take shelter under a tree. You can get electrocuted.

If in the event of a tornado, get you and your family in a basement or sturdy shelter like a closet or bathtub, and stay away from windows.

If unable to reach shelter, run to a ditch away from power lines and duck.

After a disaster, stay away from power lines on the ground. They can still explode.

These tips should keep you and your family safe in a disaster.

Visit to Lyme Country

So we, meaning my husband, son and father-in-law, wanted to see some raw nature one day.  We decided to go to Indian Island state park.  Once there, we got out of the car and walked about 4 feet through some mild brush to the water.  Before we new it we had 4-5 deer ticks on each of us, including the baby.  We checked each other carefully and removed the ones we found, then we left.  I never would have thought of that incident again, but I was diagnosed with Lyme disease in June 2010.

I had been feeling really sick, flu-like.  My joints were inflamed and very painful, spine and knees bothering me the most.  Yet I never considered that it could be Lyme disease.  I have a particularly thorough doctor who did the test to rule it out. Unfortunately it came back positive.  First I was shocked, but then I thought,  "at least it's something that can be cured, think of the alternatives".  I was actually relieved it wasn't anything worse.  They started the first course of antibiotics, twenty-one days of Doxycycline.   So I ordered the medicine and began the treatment.  At first it was good, the swelling in my joints started to dissipate, and I had very little trouble with the medicine.  After about four days my stomach began to become very upset and painful after I would take the antibiotic.  So I tried to eat more substantial meals before taking it, as the pharmacy recommended. This did help to a small degree, but as the days wore on, the side effects became more pronounced, Mostly gastro-intestinal.  I started acidophillus as per the Nurse Practitioner in my doctors' office suggested.  Again it helped to some degree but the side effects still persisted until the end of therapy.  I managed to complete this treatment despite the side effects only to wake up to swollen joints, aching head, burning in my spine the very next day after treatment ended.

Back to the doctor I went, round two of Doxycycline is ordered.  Very distressed is how I would explain my thoughts about going through this again.  But trying to be a positive person I told myself at least something could be done.  Well, OMG, I had a terrible time with the second round.  I vomited an hour or so after taking every dose and have unbelievable diarrhea.  I could barely leave the house.  Back to the doctor I went.  They took me off the Doxycycline, but due to my Penicillin allergy there wasn't any replacement antibiotic.  So now I received a referral to the Infectious disease Doctor for the next day.

This doctor ordered blood work and said we would see what route we would go after the blood work came back, that was a week or so ago.  I still have not heard from him, I have called his office for the last three days.  The pain in my joints became so bad that I re-started that second course of antibiotics that I never finished.  And I am in agony from the gastro-intestinal symptoms, but honestly the joint swelling and pain can be unbearable when it goes completely untreated.

So now I wait, and research how to eradicate this illness.  The one thing that keeps amazing me is how such a small animal as a deer tick could harm a human to this degree.  Life really is a mystery.  Will keep you all updated.  Just a side note I am also trying Spirokete (natural herb) that helps eliminate Lyme at the base of your spine.  That and acidophillus are good additives to this treatment, but they are not FDA approved so you will need to check with your doctor before taking them.  Good luck and be careful out there!
